Self-care doesn't have to be and isn't the same for everyone, as self-care is what makes you happy and treating your body like it's a temple is not for everyone. The purpose of self-care days for me is to make sure that I'm looking after myself and my mental health and in doing so I'm making sure that I am doing what I like and enjoy as well as eating the foods, snacks and treats that I like while doing what makes me happy.

Self-care and me

My self-care days tend to include or revolve around me not doing a lot at all, I tend to just be chilling or relaxing with Netflix or a stream, snacks, coffee, blankets, music or a podcast. Presently my self-care days are usually spent watching a stream while I'm blogging, usually with a variety of different snacks and treats to indulge on and of course with coffee in hand. With my struggle with mental health, I have found that I need to keep busy otherwise I'm just left with the overpowering and overwhelming thoughts and feelings that come as a result of my mental health struggle; which is a reason as to why there is a lot of blog posts that are centred around and focus on mental health and my mental health. The reason why I tend to chill and relax on my self-care days is due to the inability to fall asleep easily, for example, despite having work early, I am currently sitting up in bed writing this blog post at 00:55, Saturday 8th May. With the constant struggle with being somewhere quite and alone with my thoughts, I tend to over think and work myself up into a rather agitated state, which leads me on to overthinking and questioning everything thats in my head and wanting to try find out why I'm thinking or feeling that way and finding the route cause of my problem. This is why I find self-care days absolutely essential to my week, as it provides my body and my mind time to relax and unwind without any worries or stress, especially with the way the world is during the current pandemic, stress levels and mental health across the globe has been an ever growing issue and concern.

My go to drinks and snacks

My first and most essential drink for my self-care days is of course, coffee followed swiftly by water. That's it for drinks, thats all I need while my self-care is well in play. Now snacks. Snacks are an entirely different matter, they can vary to anything from sweet to savoury. Chocolate and gummy sweets are always a want and need, followed by crisps, of course some plain buttered toast is amazing. I tend to reach for the Kinder Bueno's both the original and the white chocolate, followed by the bubblegum flavoured bottles followed by Daim Bars and everyones favourites, Haribo, Tangfastics and finally Cadburys chocolate fingers. Of course I literally just indulge and snack away the day while blogging and watching a stream or listening to music or a podcast.

Self-care and you

Self-care or having a self-care day is in no way a harmful or selfish thing to do, everyone deserves and is entitled to have a self-care day and just do what they want to do and eat what they want. Its incredibly important to look after and care for ourselves. Theres nothing wrong with putting yourself first every once in a while, friends come and go and so do jobs and work colleagues, its vital and important that you focus on yourself, because after all you are the one who is there everyday with your own thoughts and feelings.

So put yourself first and be you. You do you. Indulge in whatever you want, like or fancy, eat, drink and binge. Relax, unwind and do what you want to do and don't let anyone tell you that you can't. We are our own individual and we are entitled to put ourselves first and indulge in self-care from time to time.
